2012 Course News:

Wheat City Golf Course Set To Open For Season

The City of Brandon’s Community Services Department is extremely pleased to announce the early opening of the Wheat City Golf Course for the 2012 season. Weather dependent, the course’s opening is planned for Saturday, March 24th, with initial operating hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

To start, the course will open with 7 holes up top, with the anticipation that a full 9 holes can be opened in late-April. The opening of the course’s full 18-hole course will be dependent on weather, but is anticipated by mid-August.

Also different this year is the course’s season pass price. Due to the fact that a full course will not be open for an entire season, the City has reduced the 2012 adult season pass rate to $520 – a savings of more than 30% from the originally approved rate of $775 in the City’s 2012 fee schedule. The calculation was derived from the level of service (the number of holes) that the Wheat City Golf Course can offer for the 2012 golf season.

The City of Brandon wishes all golfers – from pros to first-timers – a happy and successful golfing season!

CITY OF BRANDON SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON REC CENTRE PROPERTY:

Brandon – The City of Brandon continues to seek public input as it considers potential re-development options for the Brandon Recreation Centre building and its associated parking lot property.

At the first of two open houses on the matter, held on the evening of Thursday, March 8th, interested members of the public had the chance to learn more about the building’s history, its current challenges and potential revenue-generating options for the property.

“There are a number of re-development options that are being evaluated and they all require different levels of investment on the City’s behalf,” says Brandon’s Manager of Recreation Development Bryce Wilson. “It’s important that the collective community is informed about the options currently being considered by the City. The community should also be able to provide feedback on what it would like to see happen on the property.”

Members of the public who are interested in learning more about the potential development options for the Rec Centre building and its parking lot are invited to visit http://brandon.ca/recreation/recreation-centre-overview and view a series of informational slides. Included in the slideshow is a sample mock-up of what one possible commercial/residential development on the site might look like. Such a design was created for discussion purposes only and is not a proposed development at this time.

“We are very much in the early stages of putting together a re-development plan for the Rec Centre property right now,” Wilson notes. “All options are being looked at and we want to ensure that the public has the chance to weigh in on what they want or don’t want to see done with that city asset.”

When they visit the above link, people are encouraged to fill out the accompanying online survey with any comments or suggestions about the Rec Centre property’s future. Copies of the survey can also be obtained at the City of Brandon Community Services Complex, located at 2020 McGregor Avenue.

A second public open house will be scheduled in April in order to facilitate any residents who may have missed the first open house.
